Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Friday, May 30 2008

Sacredheartpicture2

In the apparitions to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, Jesus gives these twelve promises for those who are devoted to His Sacred Heart.

The Twelve Promises of Jesus to Saint Margaret Mary for those devoted to His Sacred Heart:

  1. I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life.
  2. I will establish peace in their families.
  3. I will console them in all their troubles.
  4. They shall find in My Heart an assured refuge during life and especially at the hour of their death.
  5. I will pour abundant blessings on all their undertakings.
  6. Sinners shall find in My Heart the source of an infinite ocean of mercy.
  7. Tepid souls shall become fervent.
  8. Fervent souls shall speedily rise to great perfection.
  9. I will bless the homes where an image of My Heart shall be exposed and honored.
  10. I will give to priests the power of touching the most hardened hearts.
  11. Those who propagate this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be effaced.
  12. The all-powerful love of My Heart will grant to all those who shall receive Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months the grace of final repentance; they shall not die under my displeasure, nor without receiving their Sacraments; My heart shall be their assured refuge at that last hour.

On the Feast of the Sacred Heart itself, we can gain a plenary indulgence by making an Act of Reparation to the Sacred Heart.

Virtual tour of kitchen and sunroom Thursday, May 29 2008

Someone recently asked me what my house looked like on most days. For the most part it’s pretty clean, although not having a dishwasher makes keeping the kitchen clean a little more difficult. We don’t have much grass, so the hardwood floors in the hall way, living room and dining room learning room need to be mopped often. We also have over 100 library books in the family room, so there are books everywhere! My mom usually comes over on the week-ends and catches up on laundry and the kitchen. I am so blessed!

There are a few chores we do everyday. The beds get made every morning before the kids come downstairs for breakfast, Kolbe takes out the trash, Joseph unloads the dish rack, and the three girls switch chores every two weeks. On week one the oldest girl does dishes, cleans the eating tables and island, the second oldest vacuums and sweeps the kitchen and sun room, and the third oldest does laundry. I usually end up putting all the laundry away in the evenings, I wash all the pots and pans and I mop the floors at least once a week. I need to add the bathrooms to our daily chores. I end up cleaning the bathrooms on Saturdays.

Here is what the kitchen and sun room look like just before dinner. I didn’t clean up before taking the pictures. The dish rack needs to be emptied, the left side of the sink is full of storage bowls, dinner is in the oven and I’m boiling water for my husband’s tea and a few things need to be put away. There are brownies on the island and we are about to make smoothies in our vita-mix. I have a few diapers drying in the sun room and the trash needs to be taken out, but it has been a beautiful day, so the kids have been playing outside all afternoon.

Sometime next week I’ll try to post pictures of what the family room and living room look like before dinner.

No more Subway for us! Tuesday, May 27 2008

Subway excludes homeschoolers from their latest contest.

HT- Elizabeth and Jennifer

ETA- I just received this e-mail from Lorri:

Subway has issued an apology and an explanation:
"Regarding your concerns about the Subway contest that excludes home
schools from contest eligibility, Scholastic and Subway apologize to
all individuals who have taken offense at this. Our intention was
never to make independent schooled children feel discriminated
against or excluded from this specific promotion.

Throughout the course of the year Scholastic runs a number of
contests and sweepstakes that are open to all teachers and students.
The eligibility of this contest in particular was solely put in place
to award a large group of children with the grand prize of $5,000
worth of athletic equipment. We do however understand how home-
schooled children could benefit from this type of prizing and will
make sure eligibility is open to everyone in future promotions.

We appreciate your feedback and will make sure a similar situation
does not happen in the future.

If anyone has any additional comments to make regarding this contest,
please email Scholastic directly at P&Cconnects@scholastic.com and we
will respond promptly to your concerns. Other email addresses or
phone numbers shown in this blog will not reach individuals who are
equipped to help you. Again, please direct all comments/inquiries to
P&Cconnects@scholastic.com and we would be more than happy to speak
with you regarding this.

Thank you!"

It’s that time of year again. Tuesday, May 27 2008

Last week I took the kids to the local berry farm, which is one of our favorite places to go to during the summer. My friend Kim met us there with her 8 children. We spent about 2 hours picking strawberries and playing at the playground. The girls brought some of their art supplies and made some lovely pictures overlooking the huge field. They have tables set up for playing board games and our kids had a good time playing checkers. The little kids went to visit the goats. Maria couldn’t get enough of them. It was an absolutely beautiful afternoon. It had been raining the previous day and even that morning, so we weren’t sure if we were going to go, but by lunch time the sun came out and we decided to go. I’m so glad we did. We had a great time. When we got home we dipped the strawberries in chocolate and had a feast. We’ll be going back again next month for blueberries.

The Simple Woman’s Daybook- May 26th Monday, May 26 2008

Simplewomandaybooksmall_3

Peggy is on vacation this week, but I decided to do it this week anyway. She’ll be back next week.

Outside my Window…Beautiful sunny day.

I am thinking…I need to get my kids up.

I am thankful for…my husband’s new job, which will be close to home.

From the kitchen…cereal and later sausage and eggs.

I am creating…not much, but my husband is creating a paradise in our backyard. I’ll post about that later.

I am going…on a date with my husband to Home Depot after breakfast.

I am wearing…a tan skirt, light blue long sleeve T-shirt and tan sandals.

I am readingConnection Parenting: Parenting Through Connection Instead of Coercion, Through Love Instead of Fear.

I am hoping…to make fudge brownies for dessert tonight.

I am hearing…"I loved her first" by Heartland.

Around the house…lots of books to be read, lots of laundry to wash, lots of children to love and nurture 🙂

One of my favorite things…waking up next to my baby.

A few plans for the rest of the week…catching up on school work.

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you
