I better write this down before I forget Sunday, Aug 31 2008

Girls_2Yesterday the 3 girls spent the day at King’s Dominion, while I stayed home with the 4 little kids. They left the house at 9:00 am so they could be there by the time it opened. Sometime around 5:00 pm they started wondering if they should stay a little longer or leave then. They had planned on staying until 7:00 that night. While they were standing around talking about it, they saw a baby around the same age as Maria in a stroller playing with her hands and laughing. The baby looked a lot like our baby and right then one of the girls said, "Let’s go home. I miss the Mia. I want to play with her." They all agreed and decided to come home to be with the baby. I was so glad to hear this. I have had a very difficult week and this is just what I needed to hear.  Thank you, Lord, for these seven beautiful miracles with which we have been blessed!.

What she said! Saturday, Aug 30 2008

"We have an opportunity now to shape the future of our culture, an opportunity to ensure that our children and our grandchildren are safe in a  culture of life. We have an opportunity as mothers, wives, and women to  effect change: meaningful, positive change." Read the rest of what Elizabeth Foss said here.

Feast of St. Augustine Thursday, Aug 28 2008

Augustine_4

From St. Augustine Confessions

Chapter 1. He Proclaims the Greatness of God, Whom He Desires to Seek and Invoke, Being Awakened by Him.

1. Great are You, O Lord, and greatly to be praised; great is Your power, and of Your wisdom there is no end. And man, being a part of Your creation, desires to praise You, man, who bears about with him his mortality, the witness of his sin, even the witness that Thou resistest the proud, — yet man, this part of Your creation, desires to praise You. Thou movest us to delight in praising You; for You have formed us for Yourself, and our hearts are restless till they find rest in You. Lord, teach me to know and understand which of these should be first, to call on You, or to praise You; and likewise to know You, or to call upon You. But who is there that calls upon You without knowing You? For he that knows You not may call upon You as other than You are. Or perhaps we call on You that we may know You. But how shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? or how shall they believe without a preacher? Romans 10:14 And those who seek the Lord shall praise Him. For those who seek shall find Him, Matthew 7:7 and those who find Him shall praise Him. Let me seek You, Lord, in calling on You, and call on You in believing in You; for You have been preached unto us. O Lord, my faith calls on You—that faith which You have imparted to me, which You have breathed into me through the incarnation of Your Son, through the ministry of Your preacher.

Chapter 27. He Grieves that He Was So Long Without God.

38. Too late did I love You, O Fairness, so ancient, and yet so new! Too late did I love You! For behold, You were within, and I without, and there did I seek You; I, unlovely, rushed heedlessly among the things of beauty You made. You were with me, but I was not with You. Those things kept me far from You, which, unless they were in You, were not. You called, and cried aloud, and forced open my deafness. You gleamed and shine, and chase away my blindness. You exhaled odours, and I drew in my breath and do pant after You. I tasted, and do hunger and thirst. You touched me, and I burned for Your peace.

Novena to St. Monica

Dear St Monica, troubled wife and mother,
Many sorrows pierced your heart
During your lifetime.
Yet you never despaired or lost faith.
With confidence, persistence and profound faith,
You prayed daily for the conversion
Of your beloved husband, Patricius
And your beloved son, Augustine.

Grant me that same fortitude,
Patience and trust in the Lord.
Intercede for me, dear St. Monica,
That God may favorably hear my plea
For

(mention your petition here)

And grant me the grace
To accept his will in all things,
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
In the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God forever and ever. Amen.

Short it is! Saturday, Aug 23 2008

Short or long? Saturday, Aug 23 2008

I think I’m going to cut my hair off today. My hair is naturally very curly, but I usually blow dry it straight. Lately, I haven’t had time to do anything with it, so maybe having it short will be easier. I really like this hairstyle. I’ll have to cut off at least 12 inches, though! What do you think?
