Summer fruit yogurt smoothie Friday, Apr 24 2009

I just made the best smoothie ever! I got the recipe from the book Superfoods: For Babies and Children, which my friend Marilyn suggested.  The smoothie is very creamy, very filling and most importantly, very healthy. I think I'm going to make this for us as a mid-morning snack every day or so. The kids always seem to be hungry right around 10 am, so this would be perfect for them. Maybe it will keep them out of the kitchen and in the school room until lunch time :-) I added flax seeds to make a little bit healthier. I made this smoothie in my Vitamix, although the recipe is actually for ice cream and you make it in an ice cream maker. I don't have the patience to wait for it to harden, so a smoothie it is!

Summer fruit yogurt ice cream smoothie

One 10-ounce package mixed frozen berries
1 3/4 cups plain yogurt
1 cup heavy cream
3/4 cup sugar- we use organic sugar from Costco
2 tablespoons of flax seeds

Put all ingredients in the blender and mix until smooth and enjoy!

Novena to St. Joseph- day 2 Friday, Apr 24 2009

O Saint Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires.

O Saint Joseph, assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord; so that having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.

O Saint Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me, and ask Him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath. Amen

O Saint Joseph, hear my prayers and obtain my petitions. O Saint Joseph, pray for me. (Mention your intention)

(Note: This prayer was found in the 50th year of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In 1505, it was sent by the Pope to Emperor Charles when he was going into battle. It is said that whoever shall read this prayer or take it with them, shall never die a sudden death or be drowned, nor shall poison take effect on them; neither shall they fall into the hands of the enemy, or shall be burned in any fire or shall be overpowered in battle.)

Say this prayer for nine days for anything you may desire. Then let go and let God. Trust that whatever is the outcome of your novena is truly what is best for you in accordance with the will of God.)

Novena to St. Joseph- day 1 Thursday, Apr 23 2009

St Joseph

I love St. Joseph. This statue of Saint Joseph sits prominently on our kitchen counter. It was actually a friend's idea to display him for his feast day. He has been so powerful in interceding for our family in so many ways. Last year my husband prayed this novena for a new job and had an interview on the 9th day of his novena. Of the 5 interviews he went to during the novena, this one was the best one. He got the job and now works less than 30 minutes from home instead of an hour and a half, and we can take him out to lunch whenever we are in the area. We have been spoiled blessed by him through the years and I'm looking forward to celebrating this great feast day in 9 days. I have a few intentions close to my heart and hope that someday I can write about them here. St. Joseph, ora pro nobis!

Small Successes- vol. 14 Thursday, Apr 23 2009

FaithButton

1) I cleaned both bathrooms upstairs. I know it's the kids job to clean their bathroom, but once you clean one bathroom, it leads to next. Unfortunately, I ran out of my homemade cleaning supplies, so…

2) …I made 4 new bottles of cleaning solution. `How I love the scent of Lavender. As soon as the kids give me back the camera, I'll post pictures and the recipe.

3) Our 15 year old and I made the best dinner Monday night. She made cauliflower and chicken sauteed in olive oil and I made lasagna rollatini. It's a recipe we saw from the Olive Garden. This one is a keeper.

Do you have some small successes you'd like to share this week? Post them at Faith and Family Live

Divine Mercy Sunday Sunday, Apr 19 2009

Divine%20Mercy

The devotion is practiced by praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Novena to the Divine Mercy, both of which may be prayed at any time, but especially at "The Hour of Great Mercy" — 3:00 PM, the hour our Lord died, and in conjunction with Divine Mercy Sunday.

On Divine Mercy Sunday, a plenary indulgence may be gained, under the usual conditions, if one

a) trusts in the Divine Mercy and reflects the Divine Mercy in his life

b) prays the Divine Mercy Novena from Good Friday to Divine Mercy Sunday

c) goes to Confession on Divine Mercy Sunday (or in the 7 days preceding)

d) venerates the image of the Divine Mercy on Divine Mercy Sunday

e) attends Mass and receives Communion on Divine Mercy Sunday

f)  is free from all attachment to sin, even a venial sin

This last is most difficult, but if it can't be fulfilled, a partial indulgence will be gained.
