Ascend3Today we celebrate the feast of the Ascension of Our Lord, 40 days after Easter. The feast of St. Joseph the Worker has been transferred to tomorrow. They are both 1st. class feasts. The Paschal Candle is extinguished after the Gospel today as a symbol of the departure of Christ. We are going to put away our Paschal candle, which we have been lighting for the Rosary throughout the Easter season.

Today would be a good idea to go climb up a hill, in observance of Jesus and the Apostles climbing the Mt. of Olives, where Jesus ascended to Heaven. Fortunately, there is a big dirt hill down the street where we live. The kids love going up there and sliding down on their bottoms : ) They had lots of fun sledding this winter. It is also a tradition to eat some sort of bird today in honor of Christ Who "flew" to Heaven. We’re going to make one of our favorite chicken recipes, Chicken Cordon Bleu for dinner.

After Mass, we are going to try and make a some cloud crafts, as long as we have the supplies handy. I’m also going to print out a few cloud activities from Enchanted Learning. I found this pdf. file about "How Clouds are Formed" and after wards we are going to take some pictures of clouds. Marygrace has always loved taking pictures of clouds. The library has a few books about clouds, so on the way home from Mass we are going to pick up some of them and do a little cloud unit study.

Have a blessed feast of the Ascension.
